Where would we be without our volunteers!
We rely on our lovely helpers every day and would not be able to carry out our important rehabilitation work without their help. If you feel that you would like to join our team, please fill out the Volunteer Request Form and send it to us.
The hedgehog hospital is open 7 days a week and as there is no government funding available for wildlife rehabilitation, we do need to rely on volunteers to help us carry out our important rehabilitation work.
Volunteers usually help between the hours of 9am – 2pm, although we can be flexible with times within this period. Volunteers are permitted to add themselves to the volunteer board where there is availability, which means that they do not need to commit to the same day each week/fortnight. We have a coffee & biscuits break around Midday where refreshments are provided and use of a kitchen with a microwave and a fridge, if required.
To keep within the guidelines for Covid, mask wearing is permitted, hand sanitisation areas provided and the main hospital is a large area, so a volunteer is able to work safely distanced from others. A volunteer’s main duties consist of cleaning out the hedgehog enclosures, checking their condition, weighing them, recording their weight and taking them to the IT area for medications if needed. Between each area cleaned, a volunteer would wash and sterilise the food bowls and put laundry on to wash before moving on to another area. Training and gloves will be provided and after an initial training period, additional training is available to medicate patients if a volunteer wishes to learn.
